A personal listing for Andrew Gerding of Keller Williams SWMC. Andrew and his wife spent three years breathing new life into this South Austin Rancher. I think they did a great job, inside and out!

Westminster Glen

The highest compliment I can receive is a referral from a fellow photographer.  James Bruce contacted me this week and asked if I could pinch hit for him, and I was glad to oblige.  The assignment was a single-story limestone home in Westminster Glen, off of City Park Road, for the Gene Arant Team of KW/Lake Travis.

The State Theater, or as we call it now…

Stateside at the Paramount, run by the same organization as it’s older brother, The Paramount Theatre, was built in 1935 by the Interstate Theater Circuit as Austin’s first from-the-ground-up movie house.  It remained in service until the early 1970s.  Since then, the State has been home to several theater companies, and is now emerging as a multi-discipline venue, booking live music, theatrical performances, comedy and of course movies, now shown in HD digital.

I’ve had the opportunity to photograph the State a few times recently.  Here are a few samples of what will become a body of work chronicling Stateside at the Paramount’s rebirth and evolution into one of Downtown Austin’s newest destination venues.

Multi-level home from the 1970s ready for a second chance

One of my favorite bar trivia buddies is now the office manager of the Papasan Team at Keller Williams SWMC.  Rosalyn contacted me to shoot their new listing near Spicewood Springs and Loop 360 in Northwest Austin.  This is a very clever, multi-level home in a great spot, just crying out for a second chance as a cool pad.  Every bedroom exits to a patio!  There is a ton of space inside, and endless entertainment space outside.  Who is up for the challenge?

The Spring Condominium Tower is on the western edge of Downtown Austin, overlooking Lady Bird Lake with a great view of the city.  Lily Aleksander has a new listing on the 15th floor, and I was delighted to have the opportunity to shoot it.

10903 Mellow Lane, in NW Austin

Here’s a place in the Northwest Hills that made me look twice.  The sellers did some updating and a little “downdating”, combining modern and rustic accents in a way that work well together.  Notice the poured concrete counter top in the kitchen, and the rustic counter and medicine cabinets in the master bath as examples.  Another fine listing for Mary House of the Marye Company, this unique property probably wont last a week.

UPDATE: This listing had multiple offers within the first week on the market.  Mary House knows how to get the job done!

Elegance in Tarrytown

Wendy Papasan is on a roll.  Her newest listing is this elegant two-bedroom limestone home in Tarrytown.  It features a custom made cherry kitchen, and bathrooms large enough to do the tango without touching a wall.  Spending the morning in this lovely home made for a good Friday indeed!

Casting a net

The assignment for this home – instructions from the agent – was to shoot as wide as possible for every room.  The widest lens I own is a Sigma 10 – 20mm zoom, which on my Nikon D7000 equates to an effective focal length of 15mm.  This is generally considered too wide for architectural / real estate photography, but as they say in the service industry….   “The client is always right, just so long as their check clears.”

The home is in the Rob Roy subdivision just outside Austin.  I wish I could have stayed there all day, as this is the type of home from which portfolios are made.  I would have shot the entire place twice given time, once the assigned way, and once my way.  But as things often work out, this was but one shoot on a busy schedule; neither the homeowners or my personal schedule allowed much time for dawdling.

4713 Sinclair

Here’s a showcase listing for Rupa Caramelli of Keller Williams.  This home has been remodeled recently, and they spared no expense.  The Master Suite on the second floor boasts a spacious bathroom, a balcony overlooking the back yard, and an attached nursery.  I kept her there a bit longer than I had promised, but this house was so much fun to shoot, I found it difficult to leave!

In Lawless territory

No, we haven’t moved to Deadwood.  Not yet, anyway.  We did, however, visit the Mueller (pronounced “Miller” for my out-of-town readers) Redevelopment to photograph a home on Lawless Drive for Wendy Papasan.  Wendy is a true and certain real estate guru, and this shoot is being treated as an audition.  Wish me luck!
