Stateside at the Paramount, run by the same organization as it’s older brother, The Paramount Theatre, was built in 1935 by the Interstate Theater Circuit as Austin’s first from-the-ground-up movie house. It remained in service until the early 1970s. Since then, the State has been home to several theater companies, and is now emerging as a multi-discipline venue, booking live music, theatrical performances, comedy and of course movies, now shown in HD digital.
I’ve had the opportunity to photograph the State a few times recently. Here are a few samples of what will become a body of work chronicling Stateside at the Paramount’s rebirth and evolution into one of Downtown Austin’s newest destination venues.
